Wait for the the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage;
Wait for the LORD!
Psalm 27:14
Dear Believer,
Have you ever had to wait for an answer to prayer for a long time? Are you still waiting? We live in a time of quick answers, but our God is One whose time is in a different realm. He is eternal. In other words, He’s got time. LOTS of time. But He uses time in our lives like a slow-cooked stew. He prepares us using every circumstance and relationship, thought and feeling, to mold us and shape us into the one we are to be. You are not alone. Each one of His people is waiting. Waiting for a prayer to be answered. An unbelieving loved one, a prodigal child, a job opportunity, a business decision, healing, the ability to conceive, a legal issue to be resolved. So many reasons we wait.
Scripture has example after example of God’s patience in preparing His people:
- Noah spent a century preparing an ark to save the remnant that would recreate the earth.
- Abraham and Sara waited 25 years old to have their son Isaac.
- Isaac and Rebekah had to wait 20 years for Jacob and Esau to be born.
- Jacob spent his entire life being prepared to be Israel, the Father of the 12 Tribes.
- Joseph spend decades preparing for being the Savior of the world during the famine.
- Moses spent 40 years preparing to be the deliverer of His people out of Egypt.
- God spent 40 years preparing the Israelites for the Promised Land.
- Jesus had to wait until the age of 30 to start his ministry
Out of all these, the answer WAS given. In God’s time. In the meantime, we wait. But how do we wait? Whining and grumbling? Impatient and distressed? Dearest Believer, use this time as a sacrifice to the One who holds your life in His loving hands. Offer it back up to Him as a time of growth, trust, and obedience.
As 17th century Scottish preacher, James Renwick explained, we
Wait on God because we are commanded to do so. Wait for the LORD, be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14
Wait on God because those who do so will never be shamed. Indeed, none who wait for You shall be put to shame…Psalm 25:3a
Wait on God because this is the most quieting and composing posture in an evil time. For God alone, O my soul , wait in silence, for my hope is from him. .. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before him; God is a refuge for us. Psalm 62:5, 8;
O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble. Is. 33:2
It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of our LORD. Lam. 3:26
Wait on God because this has been the work of the people of God in the past. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. Ps. 130:6
But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. Micah7:7
Wait on God because this always has a joyful outcome. The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Lam. 3:25
This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Is 25:9b
But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength…Is 40:31
Don’t despair if you are waiting. God is preparing you for the answer.
The Lord be with you,
Bianca
