Stand and Trust

Stand and Trust

Bianca Williams

“If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”

 Isaiah 7:9b

During the time of Isaiah, Ahaz, king of Judah, was faced with a problem. A big one. Two powers, Aram and Israel, had united to come after him and his people. The Bible says this caused King Ahaz and the people to be “shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind” (v. 2). They were terrified.

But the Lord sent the prophet Isaiah with this message of encouragement: ‘Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid’ (v. 4). The Lord explains His sovereign plan and reminds King Ahaz, ‘If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all’ (v. 9b). God’s message to King Ahaz was one that required trust. A message of dependence on the only One who is in control and capable to protect his people.

No matter what we are faced with, faith in Christ is our security. Our hope in Him is our anchor. Without Him, we will fall. When we displace Christ from His rightful place as Sovereign King and trust in ourselves, external things, and/or circumstances, we waver. We shake, like King Ahaz. We become anxious, worried, and afraid. Nothing but God is sure, unwavering, faithful, and unshakeable. Understanding this truth makes Him our Rock. Trusting in our Rock brings peace, calm, and rest.

“He alone is my rock ad my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”

Psalm 62:6-7

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Isaiah 26:3

Trust Him, dear believer. He made you, He knows you and He loves you with an everlasting love. Rest in Him today and praise Him for His goodness. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.

The Lord be with you,

Bianca
