I have always been humbled and felt grateful regarding the idea of being chosen by God. I remember reading the Old Testament many years ago and reading the lovely words of God toward His people Israel. The help for His esteemed remnant. Yet, it felt like I was separated from that. It was words for others, not me. Then I came across Romans 11. “And you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree” (Rom. 11:17)
The visual of a wild olive branch being chosen and grafted into a well established, cultivated tree was and is a beautiful truth.
In Christ, we are one people. I can read the words of His people and know I am part of it. What an amazing and unifying love!
“For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” Galatians 3: 26-29
I, the wild olive, as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, am part of the God’s covenant people. Not only I, but my children as well, “for the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” Acts. 2:39
Those who fear and trust the Lord have wonderful promises to hold on to for generations to come.
“But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I trust in God’s faithful love forever and ever.” Psalm 52:8 (HCSB)
“Your wife shall be a fruitful vine within your house, your children like olive shoots around your table.” Psalm 128:3
Our God is a family focused, generationally minded God. My sprouts are my children, that will teach their children the truths about God, and so on. I trust God with His blessing and favor for generations to come. May His name be praised.
“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God , which keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 7:9
